The use of contact lenses by Army air crew.
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction The use of soft contact lenses in flight by RAF aircrew has recently been the subject of a trial at the RAF Institute of Aviation Medicine (lAM). The trial is complete but the report is yet to be published. The Army is the only service to permit some pilots to fly wearing contact lenses. Currently 7 Army pilots are allowed to do so. Because of the recent interest in this aspect of aviation medicine, these personnel were questioned about their experience with contact lenses. This paper aims to discuss the use of contact lenses by military aircrew and make recommendations for future policy.

Background & objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge and use of contact lenses by high school female students in Zanjan in 2003. Materials & Methods: The designed questionnaire was randomly distributed among the high school female students. Then the questionnaire’s questions were standardized based on the study. The main sample size was 700. The samples were selected o...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of a Selected Exercise Training Course on the Motion Sickness in Pilots and Flight Crew Members of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Background and Aim: Motion sickness is a natural and temporary response to unfamiliar motor stimuli which reduces performance in complex tasks that require constant attention. The aim of this research was to study the effect of a special exercise training period on motion sickness in the pilots and flight crews of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Methods: In this study, 20 pilot studen...
متن کاملThe study of Lysozyme adsorption onto 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylates and Silicon Hydrogel Contact Lenses
In order to increase the water content and the oxygen permeability of hydrogels used in themanufacture of contact lenses, the polar monomer Silicon Hydrogel Contact Lenses (SHCL), and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were copolymerized with the hydrogels. Due to the presence ofpolar monomers in the conventional contact lenses, the major component of the human tear, lysozyme is extensively adso...

Introduction Hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) is a hydrop~ylic absorpt1ve hydrogel of good mechanical strength which can, in the dehydrated state, he la;the cut to accura'te dimensioIlls and then rehydrated to form a softconta,et Jens of excellent optical properties. Lenses intended for correction .of ametropia (usually myopia) have a water content of 30 per cent to 40 percent hut the ma:terial ...
متن کاملThe effect of polar copolymers in protein absorption on contact lenses on 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA)
For the purpose of increasing the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium water content in contact lenses, polar copolymers with nonionic monomers such as 2-hydroxyethle methacrylate(HEMA) Is used. By adding the polar monomers to (HEMA), the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium with water content is increased and also the absorption of proteins on lens surface is changed. In this research, the...
